On May 5, 2021, an act of dedicated to Dr. Jaume Porta Casanellas, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Environment and Soil Sciences (DMACS) and the University of Lleida, took place to recognize all the work done by Prof. Porta in the department since its creation in 1977 and until today (see the news about this act). During the event, the book "Medi Ambient i Ciències del Sòl – Miscel·lània homenatge a Jaume Porta" was presented, which was given to him by Dr. Jaume Puy i Llorens, Magnificent Rector of the University of Lleida, and José Antonio Martínez Casasnovas, Director of the DMACS.

The book has been published by the Institut d’Estudis Ilerdencs of the Diputació de Lleida and its edition has been jointly by the Institut d’Estudis Ilerdencs and the Department of Environment and Soil Sciences; being the coordinators Damià Vericat Querol, José Antonio Martínez Casasnovas, Rosa Maria Poch Claret, Carme Vidalhuguet and Montse Querol.

This book is a miscellany of work done by present and past members of the Department of Environment and Soil Sciences. The articles reflect the imprint that Jaume Porta has left as a scientist and professor of soil science in Lleida, where in the late 70's he created the embryo of the department at the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyers Agrònoms, of which was also its promoter and director. Thus, as said on the back cover of the book, “we can say that he has trained different generations of students in soil science for well over four decades, who in some cases have become colleagues in the department, and in other cases have spread the knowledge acquired from other centers and organizations around the world”.

The book is prefaced by Dr. Jaume Puy i Llorens, Rector of the University of Lleida, and by Dr. Joandomènec Ros Aragonès, President of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans. It contains 15 chapters distributed in 4 thematic areas: Soil Science and Agronomy (7 chapters), Soil Mapping (3 chapters), Hydrological Processes (3 chapters) and Physics Applied to the Environment (2 chapters). In addition, it also contains 8 personal reviews dedicated to Professor Jaume Porta. The photographs on the cover and in the different sections are by Josep Miquel Ubalde Bauló and on the back cover by Rosa M. Poch Claret.
